Dean Bortell is the founder of MythMappers, a project dedicated to investigating myths and legends with a scientific approach. A retired computer scientist and military veteran, Dean brings a unique perspective to the world of unexplained phenomena.
Dean grew up on a dairy farm outside Oklahoma City, where he was introduced to computers at an early age, thanks to his father’s work as a Honeywell computer engineer. His technical background, combined with his passion for exploration, led him to pursue a career in engineering after serving in the Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician. During his military service, Dean gained valuable experience in troubleshooting and repair, skills he now applies to investigating unexplained phenomena.
After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Dean worked for various technology companies before retiring to an organic vegetable farm in Monument, Colorado. Alongside his wife, Analiza, and their two daughters, Dean operates OneLuv Organics, focusing on sustainable farming and outdoor adventures.
Dean’s interest in Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) and other high-strangeness events drives him to explore the unexplained. As a member of the Colorado Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) Science Advisory Board, he contributes his expertise to the study of UAP and leads investigations into mysterious phenomena.
Dean’s journey with MythMappers reflects his commitment to blending science and storytelling. He believes that by exploring the unknown, we can shed light on the mysteries that have fascinated humanity for generations.
